give me a nine-key keyboard that's just one key to hold down for each bit you want set and a ninth you press to enter that byte
@typhlosion at that point why not have a 16 key keyboard where each key represents each hex digit and pressing two in succession inputs that hex

the delay between bits is about a quarter of a second, you have to tap within that period if you want to enable that bit
