@vahnj I saw a link last week that I sadly can't find that laid out the case that the manga's author (which this version of the show seems to be fairly faithful to) is profoundly anti-war and that humanity's propensity for violence is what he abhors the most.
It comes off as nihilistic that humanity would so easily destroy itself, but if Akira is the author's mouthpiece, then he's essentially begging, hoping for humanity to do better, even if he fears it wouldn't be able to.

@Kit with how much the show focuses on how the devilmen express love to the same sex (see: Ryo expressing love over Akira at the end) I'm more angry with using that as a foil for suffering
I'm sick of that shit
I can see it being anti war but bringing god into it makes that message not ring true at all it literally feels like an analogy for wiping out homosexuality and queerness in general (re: Satan's body)
