@typhlosion this actually reminds me of one of the BEST D&D stories I have (okay, Pathfinder).

@typhlosion The Pathfinder campaign required our party to travel across the pseudo-arctic to pseudo-Japan, but the best pseudo-Inuit guide was held captive by pseudo-Vikings in their mead hall.
I came up with a lot of the plan to distract most of the Vikings while our rogues snuck in the back to rescue the guide quietly. Since I was a bard and the party's cleric had a ton of carousing skills our cover story was going to be showing up claiming to be musicians hired on by the Jarl.
@typhlosion Hopefully we'd entertain drunk Vikings for hours, with the party's fighters nearby in case.
We literally bust in the front door, I start doing charismatic gnome patter and promptly roll something ehh like a 12.
Then the cleric shows up and bellows at the top of her lungs "AWRIGHT YE WHORESON BASTARDS! WE'RE HERE TAE GI YE THE GREATEST NIGHT O MUSIC YE'VE EVER EXPERIENCED!"
So we didn't successfully con drunk Vikings, but at least our DM ruled that our party got a surprise round!
