the political is personal, mh
So; having updated information to work with I called one of my Senators and left a comment on the regulations site.
Every time I take political action I feel terrible and it's definitely a childhood thing; my understanding that the authorities will do whatever they intend to do no matter what, with no real recourse to changing that action, quickly dovetails into "well what if I'm the one who's wrong?" and a lot of self loathing (based on intelligence, financial success, appearance, etc).
This is on top of what I think stresses people from different backgrounds, the feeling that I don't actually *want* to take action, I want to make my drawings and take walks and drink coffee and whatever without ever having to think about this bullshit.

@ElectricKeet which I guess is part of why they're there. A normal person, they go holy shit people are going to die, and if they're really emotionally robust they run cost-benefit analyses and if they're not they get cold feet. Our beloved Fuehrer and his ilk, they never think twice. They know that no matter what happens, it will never come back to haunt them, they can settle out of court and buy media coverage and buy nice comfy places to live far from where they need to deal with anyone who makes under a million a year, who isn't desperate to clean floors and water lawns and scrub toilets.

@Leucrotta I know, right? The theory is that these folks are in the positions they're in because they can handle this shit for the rest of us... but it feels we're all trying to budget time and energy and whatever other resources to do their damn jobs for them – or worse, to undo their damage. All while they get paid more and more!
And they sure as hell don't wrestle with a sense of being wrong.
