people talk about "oooh the train is inconvenient" but I mean does anyone else kinda want to do a really huge long train trip? Like if it were economically feasible and no Covid or whatever I think it'd be fun to try.
... this from the person who actually liked a roadtrip that involved showering in truck stops, etc...

@Leucrotta I had fun taking the California Zephyr Amtrak train from chicago to Winter Park CO.
The only problem is that it usually has to stop for hours and hours because of needing to wait for freight trains to go by.
@Leucrotta I've always loved long train trips, yeah, and regretted not taking more of them.

@Leucrotta A friend swore off flying when the security theatre ramped up, and now visits his brother in Chicago using the California Zephyr, which he *adores*.
I can imagine, if it's anything as glorious as the Coast Starliner was a while ago - I just parked myself in the observation car for the whole trip from Oakland to LA. A /stunningly/ gorgeous journey!
