Something that kinda sucks is based on the reception of even-numbered D&D editions, 6e, whenever it comes out, will draw on 5e, Pathfinder, Blades in the Dark, a wealth of recent games... so it'll really kick ass, and people will *hate* it.

Okay, to be fair, saying you like D&D and liked 4e is a little like admitting your favorite Lovecraft is Dream Quest for Unknown Kadath or your favorite REM album is Monster. Not bad but waaay different from the usual.

@IrisKalmia I loved it, but the mechanics had a different feel from 3e/5e. Similar to how Kadath is way different from Lovecraft's usual, but it's awesome, and Monster is one of the best grunge albums but then REM went okay that was cool we're going back to the usual.

What I'm really hoping is someone gets the 4e license and makes new content sort of like how Kenzer and Company got the 2e license.

@Leucrotta @IrisKalmia I am probably committing blasphemy but I thing Pathfinder 2e does a really good job of capturing the good things about 4e and having really smooth, very tactical but not overtly "game-y" combat and skill challenge like things.

Mind you I think Pathfinder 2e has its own issues.. but is really good and fun.. and actually works across all levels of play and encounter design is like.. easy and understandable and not CR levels of broken

@wobblewuffess @Leucrotta DnD has always been incredibly tactical, people just ignored large swaths of the rulebook
