about Ye and WWII

My family mostly made it out of France except for those in the Army who were sent to Auschwitz and did not survive. My grandfather's cousin was a medic so he was one of the first Americans into the camps. One of the people at my parents' wedding had a jaw which healed crooked after she played dead among the corpses and an SS man slammed the back end of a Kar 98 into her face. My great uncle was in the Ardennes, where they would have shot him had he been captured for being *American*, not just Jewish.

Do I need to tell you more about how not a joke and not a fun thing I think this is?

re: about Ye and WWII

@Leucrotta I am absolutely fucking livid over the whole thing and how it's being covered. If it's the Cosmic Author writing satire, it's the bleakest Kurt Vonnegut stuff and it's "funny" like a stomach pump. I am intensely disturbed by what is at *best* a complete psychiatric breakdown being cheered on by a neo-fascist movement whose stated and practices beliefs are increasingly coming to resemble a manic episode. If anything, I want to smack Me From A Decade Ago for not taking these things more seriously.

re: about Ye and WWII

@zebratron2084 I don’t think the at best applies. I think he knows damn well what he’s doing, is playing to an audience and there’s an excuse because with antisemitism there always is. As stated earlier all I can do is wait for the deaths from hate crime to roll in, and get the fuck off Twitter as I should have done earlier.

re: about Ye and WWII

@zebratron2084 there was a follow up which was the thing that really made me want to start throwing cinder blocks. I *started out* tired of Christians making everything okay by having a religion which is officially about love and forgiveness, cause that’s a unique trait I’m religions. I didn’t get less tired.

re: about Ye and WWII

@Leucrotta Yeah, I have a rant stored up about the difference between "forgiveness" and "the moral equivalent of money laundering," the latter ofc being the one actually practiced by most modern Christianity. :X

re: about Ye and WWII

@zebratron2084 this might be a feature of Christianity specifically which my works vs faith background innately doesn’t jive with. I don’t get to say I’m a Jew/Makhnovist/Buddhist/etc and have it make everything fine because someone *else* said something enlightened.

re: about Ye and WWII

@Leucrotta I'm so torn about that one. Because what you're saying ABSOLUTELY fits the profile of "egomaniac celebrity who just figured out conservatives offer a great feeding trough for narcissistic supply," no disputing that.

But Kanye's mental health has always sounded... wobbly over the years, even beyond the fact I don't believe you can be a celebrity of that tier and *be* psychologically healthy.

Keep in mind, my main hobby 20 years ago was "crackpots" and fringe politics and science. His anti-semitic prattle, dangerous though it is, is starting to sound a LOT like folks like the Time Cube Guy and Francis E. Dec, where you really can't forgive them for the ugliness and virulence of their speech, but you still gotta wonder how much is belief and how much is schizophrenia or mania symptom. D:

The only way we'll ever find out is if Kanye gets *treated* and I think we all know the reasons that ain't gonna happen. I think Paddy Chayefsky made, like, six films about it. D:

re: about Ye and WWII

@Leucrotta Counterpoint to myself, though: I can't help thinking, "Yanno, Maria Bamford ALSO had severe manic episodes. And she never, ever, not in the absolute depths of disordered thought, praised Hitler. She told her friends she had urgent messages for the Pope, sure, but never HATED a damn soul in her delusions."

So yeah, fuck Kanye even if he IS psychiatrically unwell, 'cause... I dunno, I think even when you're lierally delusional those delusions are pulled from things already in your head.

re: about Ye and WWII

@Leucrotta And i mean... at the risk of being insensitive to people who have had reality-alignment issues, who generally have my utmost sympathy because BRAIN SUCK... there's something really really disturbing about being the subject of people's paranoid fixations. I've been there, from several fandom acquaintances who have centered on me for their ideations.

I can't fucking begin to imagine what it's like to be part of a community that's been part of those ideations for CENTURIES. If I ever took you less than seriously about this stuff I can not repent enough. D: D: D:

re: about Ye and WWII

@zebratron2084 the thing about any marginalized group is its history is going to be made invisible even to itself, there are things about Jewish history I’m still learning. Very little of it is nice; our society talks like antisemitism was just Germany in the 30s/40s, but… my family came here because of a rash of pogroms from 1900-1905. Some of them had a Spanish name, they got kicked out after Isabella went back on her word and obliterated a centuries old subculture, etc.

re: about Ye and WWII

@zebratron2084 and while I definitely have had my share of the real stuff, who can say how much of my mistreatment by my family is a holdover of some great grandparent or their parent getting fucked up emotionally?
And the secret masters thing; we aren’t a big group. It’s like trans folks; if you want to spew bile about Jews there’s little chance a Jew will be *around* to countermand them… and if you say anything you get dismissed as over sensitive, OR WORSE happens.
