Thousands of people were suddenly on the street, AIDS was grinding through Gay men, we had a huge recession hit, and as far as ending the Cold War you got to see guys like Lech Walesa really putting themselves on the line while we were ramping up more and more, it felt like we were bombing Libya every few months, but the most disapproval you'd hear in pre-internet Georgia was about like, Reagan's visit to the Bitburg cemetary.

@KawaSeadrake So if you can imagine how having this big, societal whitewashing - this big patriotic Top Gun, THE PRESIDENT IS RESTORING THE PRIDE WE LOST WHEN WE PULLED OUT OF VIETNAM, that stuff - at the same time a lot of gaslighting was going on on a hugely personal level, it really really stacked badly.
Like, have you seen the movie Donnie Darko? That's a lot like what the 80s felt like.
