I miss working with silver. Really should re-do the wire wrap on that meteorite fragment necklace. Broke years ago and I didn't get around to fixing it.
Fine metals teacher, early in the class: "I know it's more expensive, but you'll actually be really happy when you start working in silver instead of copper. It's just such a nicer material to work with."
Me: "Sounds fake but okay."
Me, a month later: "Oh shit she was totally right, silver is magical."
@starkatt what differences are there in the two materials, just melting point (and conductivity)?
@Leucrotta So there's something about the ductility and malleability of silver that's just... special. I honestly don't know how to describe it :<
It does what you tell it to. It doesn't fight back but it doesn't wilt either.
Also it oxidizes way slower than copper, which is nice since oxide layers are bad for soldering.
@starkatt actually, now that you say this, it fits with other stuff I know!
@Leucrotta There were actually two courses! The first was focused on small sculptural construction in silver. The second was a lost-wax casting course, primarily in bronze but you could do silver too if you wanted to pay for it.
