Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

Do we have a problem with Mastodon celebrities like Twitter did?

I am always worried about falling into twitters pitfalls and to some degree I think it's unavoidable but that's why I want a culture of friendliness when possible here and that's gotten really hard lately I feel like so this feels like an important question to ask

thanks for replying to this everyone

i think i'm feeling a lot better about this, as the tools that foster a toxic celebrity environment are a lot more neutered here :ok_hand:

@vahnj Could we ask, what do you mean by toxic celebrity environment? We never used birdsite, and we are fairly ignorant of celebrities in general.

Mastometa conclusion

@Rosemary the main thing off the top of my head is celebrities developed a culture of quote tweets to push visibility into responses with toxic folks

there's not a good mechanism for doing that here, and on top of that the general culture of mastodon tries to engage in actual arguments more politely

there's a slight problem with how discourse works in general but people aren't rude to other folks when they're tossing their views up like that and that's my main worry point

Mastometa conclusion

@Rosemary this is not really a particular response to any one person, but rather that i'm kinda just worrying in general about this, since celebrities tend to have a lot more cultural power around how this stuff develops, hence my worry about celebrities
