@angrboda the really stupid thing is that FE is almost always really close to FWA which is a con I really liked when we got to attend it. I defaulted to FE instead because it's closer (even tho it's in a different country) and a bunch of friends go / Abe usually wants to go. Maybe long term we switch back to FWA, idk. The weather is certainly nicer.
@tfproxy read some rough takes on Twitter that kind of exacerbated my general fatigue about everyone having to have comments / takes / dunk opportunities on Americans. We get it. We suck. A lot of us are trying hard to stop sucking, IDK what to tell you.

@tfproxy I think the takes that makes me the tiredest are ones that just boil down to like 'America is big and that makes me mad!'
Like, yeah, we're big and we make a lot of stuff, and we're kind of a cultural black hole because we constitute a lot of the English speaking internet. But we also didn't invent like, tabloids or Fox News or false equivalency, IDK

@tfproxy America is shitty but it's beyond disingenuous to pretend it's shitty in a vacuum. I see MAGA shitheads with Oshawa or Wellington or Brisbane or fucking Limerick listed as their locations constantly; posting in threads about American immigration, even. Ugh.

@angrboda @tfproxy At the risk of butting in, I remember Walt Kelly writing: "These continue to be wondrous times when every man tries to find a formula for keeping the stranger’s fingers from his throat. The simple expedient of holding hands will someday occur to a couple of people who will forever after be forgotten."
It's been quite a few years since he wrote it, but... yeah. These days make me think about it a lot.
