watching barkley heavy tng episode. so should someone be able to make a holodeck sex slave of your embodiment without your consent?

@confusedcharlot No!!!

@confusedcharlot but they probably have my consent

@confusedcharlot I think it depends entirely on the question “Should someone be able to make a holodeck sex slave”.
So, basically, “Is the holodeck simulation rich enough to make the simulations approximately human-level moral agents”.
Once you've answered that, I don't think modelling the simulation on someone is *ethically* different from making one up wholesale.
Although, as the episode explores, it might be a bad idea.

@RAOF in tng, and even more on ds9, it is implied that anything goes.

@confusedcharlot Yeah, but plenty of authors have been blind to the super-skeevy implications of their worldbuilding 😁
consent, simulation
@confusedcharlot Although, thinking further…
Maybe the “sex slave” bit is misleading, too - people don't like being photographed without their consent, and having a simulacrum made of you is undoubtedly more invasive.
So maybe it's just unethical to make a holodeck embodiment of someone without their explicit consent?

@RAOF it gets more muddy if members starfleet are required to consent to a holobod as part of their service.
consent, simulation
@confusedcharlot I'd expect the service paperwork to have some limitations on holobod use - and “sex slave” would not fall under authorised usages!

@RAOF the potential for abuse is high, as they say.

@confusedcharlot I vote no.
