i wonder just how much data you could store on a quad-layer bluray disk the size of a laserdisc

not that any drives exist that would fit it

@noiob have you ever heard a laserdisc player in operation?

it sounds *utterly terrifying*

@Felthry I haven't, but I know modern drives rotate discs at the limit of the material

@noiob do they? I know there were a few cd-rom drives in the 00s that were known for occasionally causing discs to explode, but I thought they'd backed off from that

@Felthry I'm guessing your average drive won't destroy a structurally intact disc but I've found pieces of a CD-ROM in a drive, luckily not mine

@noiob weird, I can't seem to find any information at all about what the actual rotational speed of a disc in the drive is
