@riking@social.wxcafe.net upon further investigation, it's really strange: if i set the registration period in the cart to 1 year, the $2.88 price is listed. if i set it to 2 years, it lists the price as $49.76, as though i have to pay almost $25 for both years. that's still cheaper than hover though
anyway i'm mainly just looking for a domain name i can attach to my Online Web Presences and whatnot, i don't necessarily need special DNS services or anything
@riking @typhlosion namecheap (what i assume youre using) has ok dns
@bootsy @riking@social.wxcafe.net ok is sufficient for my purposes
anything else i should be looking for?
@riking @typhlosion not that i can think of
@typhlosion you can also set up cloudflare as your dns!
i set up my namecheap that way so i could assign dns records to my apex domain (as in, without the leading "www") and it turned out to have a whole slew of other nice things
things like the ability to proxy your server to not expose your ip, and also what basically amounts to an automatic cdn to cache things and use up no bandwidth for a lot of requests
plus it's free!
@riking@social.wxcafe.net (Online Web Presences include: a digitalocean droplet whenever i purchase one of those, and then also probably a redirect to my masto profile)
