@Felthry in destiny, guardians are the class of being that includes the player characters - dead people who were resurrected by a mysterious cosmic machine called the Traveler and tasked with guarding humanity from those who would oppose it

@IceWolf @Felthry i mean i don't think anyone calls you that ingame (though the Fanatic does call you "dead thing"), but yeah, how you become a guardian is you're dead and then the Traveler sends a little thing called a Ghost to resurrect you
the Ghost then becomes your companion and your link to the Traveler's power (and is also the ingame explanation for how you can come back after something kills you)
