f2p with microtransactions can work extremely well as a consumer-friendly business model in very specific cases, typically when it gets you something permanent rather than consumable

like rhythm games letting you buy permanent access to premium songs so you don't have to pay $50 for 47 songs you're never gonna play

i like Neon FM for this reason. that is a f2p mobile game that does microtransactions well

shame about literally the entire rest of the market tho

in Neon FM's specific case i think that, once you've bought all the songs and removed ads, there's no more reason to spend more money til they add new songs? i actually haven't looked too far into it though
