over time several folks picked up on this, particularly d&d and they were originally "humanoid dogs but with scales" and kinda had both in OD&D

obvs the ones i really like are the dragon-like ones, but the dogbolds are great too
then there's a modern rendition that softens them and makes them kind of like bangaa from the FF Tactics universe, which are known as "cutebolds" - still scaled, but soft
