hmm...... feeling sudden urge to program on a calculator....

continuation

i made a cool arena game on my calculator and that was probably my pathway into CS stuff

i literally programmed it by reading the manual with 0 reliance on any external resources (ie: internet)

which might sound impressive but it meant my learning was significantly slower and ultimately left me further behind than if i'd found a community that could help me faster

i'm just glad my math teacher encouraged me

i remember i thought there were only 26 variables in memory....

so i had scribbled out a cheatsheet of what every variable meant and found out clever ways of storing multiple things in a single variable

continuation

plus some change for special characters

i had no clue i could chain them together to make descriptive variable names lmao

continuation

@vahnj to be fair iirc that was literally the case for the TI-84 series

continuation

@Felthry wait really? I never even tried and I think that was what I programmed it on 🤔

continuation

@vahnj I too taught myself how to program on a calculator, and it was unfortunately a ti-84, so it left me with a ton of bad habits.

Also there were no comments. The only way to comment was to put a string on a line by itself, which _seems_ like it would do nothing but actually it changes the value of the Ans variable to that string

also you didn't have to close parentheses and quotation marks in some cases?

continuation

@vahnj token-based programming was a bad idea
