media, frustration, transpol, Discourse
there is a twitter thread about going back and realizing that favorite old shows of yours have a transphobic episode.
and while they're definitely onto something and this is something i've experienced too, mostly i'm learning that my definition of "transphobic joke" is way, way out of synch with the millennial one and even just "portraying a trans person doing a bad thing" or "making a pun off of 'trans'" is enough.
i hate 2020 and i'm probably going to hate 2021 through 2030 even more

very this
re: media, frustration, transpol, Discourse
@Soreth Yeah, but Mastodon *isn't* and it feels like the takes I get here are every bit as bad. :(
Of course, that's generally fixed by avoiding the federated timeline like the plague and turning off boosts wherever possible. :p
re: media, frustration, transpol, Discourse
@zebratron2084 I'll happily admit that I have the federated timeline off, there's just too much there and I absolutely can't deal with it.
re: media, frustration, transpol, Discourse
@zebratron2084 Aaaagh fuck I said 'goof' not 'good' nooooooooooo I'm melting
media, frustration, transpol, Discourse
@zebratron2084 Oh dear...
Will the NightCourt Thunderball episode never end???
re: media, frustration, transpol, Discourse
@zebratron2084 Y'know, twitter is basically designed to magnify the bad takes because they stir up more "engagement". It's serving you something from the very bottom of the barrel, not the average of the barrel or even the goof stuff on top. :/
