@Phorm BLARGH, that sounds frustrating. I'm gonna be without my work laptop for a week or so myself, but mine was basically just the World's Largest Timeclock Punchcard to start with so I won't really miss it much.
It reminds me of when Peg used to work for the Boston Museum of Science doing Flash animation, and whenever she encountered an IT policy she didn't like, she just... kinda strolled around it, got what she needed with her own skills, and obtained forgiveness instead of permission.
We were mostly reliant on that household income at the time, so I was SO TORN between "dammit, Peg, be careful" and "YOU ARE MY ETERNAL HERO O__O ".

@zebratron2084 I absolutely and 100% approve of the "get around IT" approach whenever it is possible. And I can absolutely appreciate it working well in that situation!
I can also appreciate the tenuous and nervous energy associated with that for sure o.o
