The strength of goodness is in numbers, in help, not in personal, individual prosperity/power.

When good people do not oust evil people, because they find themselves on the in group, they enable the evil to strangle the spread of prosperity, until it becomes actively harmful. Evil people benefit much more than good people, here. But when we oust them, when we question their ethics and keep the systems working for everyone, we all gain more collectively, but not individually.

(Using good and evil here mostly for shorthand, thus why I defined it there. Obviously there's more to it than that, but that should hopefully work as a 101 for talking about the nature of non-religious morality)

Here's what good and evil look like in real life:

Good people work together, they create networks that foster teamwork and safety, allowing each specialist to go about what they're best at so that everybody prospers.
Evil people infiltrate this system and take, they destroy parts of it so that they and their in-groups can prosper.

Do you know why I hate most morality systems in video games?
Because good is often incentivized over evil in a way that doesn't reflect the nature of the world. Makes good seem like it's always obvious, even when it isn't.
Evil becomes a caricature. Do you eat kids for power? Then you're evil. Do you... not? Then you're good
And evil is given a tiny fraction of power, and good is given a LOT of power. Or they're kept starkly equal.

When the good ones do not question the bad ones, you create a situation where evil is allowed to thrive. When good does nothing, evil wins.

Good = Symbiotic, sympathetic, compassion, working together, cooperation
Evil = Parasitic, destructive, manipulative, taking for the few from the many

Individuals and groups are often conflated and it's hard sometimes to make that separation. "Not all men" etc. It's true that not all men are actively woman-hating. It's true that not all cis people are transphobic. It's true that not all cops are evil.
But institutions and group dynamics create places where this behavior is unquestioned and unchallenged.

I think the completion of that thought is... We should not be afraid of shifting power around or wanting power. We should focus on the ways we can keep an eye on the people using it, find ways to keep it transparent and transferable. A focus on whoever is using it having great responsibility.

Corrupt politicians should not be the status quo, they should be a failure state that triggers a removal and replacement.

"Power corrupts" imparts the idea that power, itself, is dangerous. That evil doesn't come from evil people, but rather that evil is a product of capability.

And I'll grant you that something can be said about people being generally oblivious and misusing power, or people being able to justify bad uses of power too easily.

However.

I get the feeling that the reason for this saying is more along the lines of "Don't resist your rulers. You'd be even worse. Beg for scraps."

Someone in charge deciding for me? ☑
Working with very kid-associated food? ☑
Sudden growth? ☑
Extreme growth? ☑
Use of supernatural or mega-tech elements? ☑
That's a lot of boxes it ticks~

Mini versions of food that grow back to regular size while being digested. Effectively creating an extremely large amount of calories. Gummi bears that are actually bear sized, left in a lunch pack, filling up a classroom later on in the day.

Or even blushier.... Goldfish that are actually just deep fried, cheese dusted whales, shrunk down. Even just a handful of those becomes *obscenely* fattening. Feeding them to me without telling me is... >///>

"Hm? 800? Where'd you get that number? You haven't been THAT thin since you were 7!"
And watch as the narrative continues to fly away from me, leaving me in a more and more bashful position.

I used to call RPs like this 'discovery' RPs. Where just out of nowhere, someone will say something that sounds a little bit weird, commenting on my weight, age, or both. And then when I deny, they 'prove me wrong' with some physical quality. "If you aren't 800 pounds, then when was the last time you saw your knees?". This became my reality, suddenly, it was unassailable. Any complaints were now stammering denial, rather than rebukes.
