I’ve been enjoying Subnautica but the sudden shift from chill, mildly spooky exploration to piloting a large clumsy submarine slowly through a 3D maze full of annoyances with no map is making me think I’m probably done.

subnautica

@ghost_bird One thing that helped me is thinking of the sub as a mobile air supply and just using the seaglide to actually explore, since it's faster and has the little sonar? depth map thing

subnautica

@masklayer Good point - I’d forgotten the seaglide - but the endgame caves are big enough that I need to get the sub in there just to be sure of my air supply?

subnautica

@ghost_bird @masklayer You don't. My first playthrough I was annoyed enough at the Cyclops that I finished without using it.

What you have to do instead is build waystations. The Seamoth can take you through 90% of the game. Below that, glide a while, build a small base or brain coral farm, repeat

(or get a mod that lets the moth to deeper)

subnautica

@Doephin @ghost_bird [there is a point at which the moth can't go any deeper tho..........] but yeah, that's basically what I did, except I did eventually bring the cyclops down into the caves with some struggle - still just to use as mobile air supply

subnautica

@masklayer @ghost_bird by mod I mean modding the game files. there's one that lets it go anywhere.

subnautica

@Doephin @ghost_bird OHH I thought you meant the like modifications in the game lol
