re: Abortion related (pro-choice), requesting help, research papers/ect
@KaffeineKaiju I will caution that a chunk of people that claim they'd be swayed by facts really won't be; it's worth having the knowledge, and it's certainly worth trying
but be emotionally prepared for them to dismiss anything you have for one reason or another no matter how blatantly obvious or how good the study.
re: Abortion related (pro-choice), requesting help, research papers/ect
@KaffeineKaiju https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2022/dec/us-maternal-health-divide-limited-services-worse-outcomes this one is about the places that are banning it; it shows they're *really bad* about maternal health already
https://osf.io/preprints/socarxiv/7g29k/ estimates of the increase in death from a nationwide ban
https://bmcwomenshealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12905-018-0705-y losening abortion restrictions reduces maternal mortality
For other reasons why it's important, look up "ectopic pregnancy" "molar pregnancy" "gestational complications" etc. The former two are notable in that they are technically pregnancies but will *never* result in a baby
@Momentrabbit *leaves hug crate*
mocking the muskrat and his blue checks
Elon gave Terry Pratchett a blue checkmark on Twitter, which says the account has "verified his phone number".
so imagine:
Elon's phone ringing No caller ID. Annoyed, he silences it. It keeps ringing. He turns the phone off. *It keeps ringing*. He picks up. On the other end of the line
"HELLO. I HAVE A COLLECT CALL FOR YOU FROM A MR. PRATCHETT. HE IS VERY INSISTENT YOU TAKE IT."
@atonal440 @bstacey 100% that would lead to double helixes everywhere
"DNI" maybe but then you get someone covering it with a tarp to prevent people from seeing it..
@mcc Awoo loads them correctly, so this is either something glitchsoc changed or a bug introduced after the fork
My other account's instance is on mastodon but doesn't update much. so it's on 3.4.6, and threads load correctly. Guessing it might be a 4.0+ bug?
@zarfeblong IIRC extension cables are not allowed in the USB specifications. So any place making them is winging it, with this kind of odd result
@crumbcake was it actually shipped from the US? Either someone is drop shipping and hiding it from you or..they're lying and increasing their prices with fake fees.
@anthracite Cheapest would be a Quest which is standalone at a couple hundred bucks. but involves Facebook.
re: A Cautionary Tale on Smoking Genies
@Phorm but consider: no one drug tests for genie highs!
@DotRook As is often the case with these no that's not you that's them being bizarre.
@zebratron2084 "yes"
re: racism
@elilla @Dawn Substack made it's name by hiring a bunch of assholes and bigots, and paying them to write....what assholes and bigots usually write.
So it's blogspot crossed with, like, the Wall Street Journal opinion section. Candy to a certain kind of techbro. The not-assholes using it because it's blogspot that allows you to pay the writers easily, which is nice for journalists.
@electrickeet what client? On the web interface It's on the right panel for me just under direct messages.
Pun, furry, open source
@ThatGeekZen also it wouldn't be an open source joke if there weren't countless forks of it!
I have seen this painting so many times over the years and somehow today is the first time I noticed the boats
