one of my favorite things is when someone uses an emoji representing their special interest as a general "love" emoji.

i have one baker friend that uses 🍞 for everything, and i work with a guy who is a volunteer steam locomotive engineer on the weekends - he uses 🚂 as his general positive reaction.

i love it!

Nevar forget the Quadro Tracker, the device sold to police agencies allegedly able to track anything, which instead of a circuitboard was revealed to just have ants glued to paper with epoxy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadro_T

ADHD is a plot by Big Microwave to push more of their wares to keep reheating that mug of tea that is never, ever hot when you come to drink it.

re: Mastodon CSS question.

Okay, so I found a few key background elements that I can change together to get enough of a color change that I'm unlikely to post on the wrong account again. That's the hope, anyhow!

Mastodon CSS question.

Is there any reasonable way to change the overall color scheme using a CSS-adding extension like like Stylus? I gather the color is kept as a single variable in the SCSS somewhere, and Stylus doesn't seem to have any way to interact with that directly....

Not sayin' U.S. food labeling laws are a little wonky, but a 2.8-ounce packet of tuna fish and a 5-ounce packet of same both claim to contain a single serving. One of them is a damn liar... and possibly both, since neither is really the right amount for a single sandwich. :thaenkin:

My brain keeps trying to focus on things that make me angry, so here's something whimsical instead.

Hello, if you want to make a post about a bad person known to public discourse, you should just spell out their actual name.

Why?

If its not a hashtag, its not searchable, so you are not protecting yourself from dogpiling.

If I don't want to see posts about Lord Voldemort, I'll have his name in my mute list. I don't want to have to make a million variations to deal with your *s or weird phrases and (implicitly) asking that i do this is too much. The more the person is inflammatory, the more your respelling is aggressively mute-dodging. (I'm not talking about accidental misspellings. People shouldn't feel like they need perfect spelling to discuss difficult subjects.)

If you are so concerned about naming somebody, put it under a descriptive CW: "the 45th president of the US", " Historical Nazis" etc, but use their actual name in the post.

mastoadmin notice/announcement - boosts welcome

#mastoadmin #mastodev

to make things easier on admins who dislike some of the new changes in Mastodon 4.0, i'm making available a docker image based on the vanilla Mastodon image with the patches I wrote that restore 3.5's behaviour.

If you use Docker, you can replace the existing mastodon image paths with:
- docker hub: maffsie/patchstodon:latest
- docker hub: maffsie/patchstodon:v4.0.2
- my registry: commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.party:patchstodon-latest
- my registry: commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.party:patchstodon-v4.0.2

These docker images are built for amd64 only (i don't have another build host) and contain the following patches:

- commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.pa - Reverts search behaviour to no longer prioritise accounts with more followers or more recent activity

- commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.pa - Re-adds the digest emails option (it was removed in favour of emailing you every time you got a notification if you didn't have an active connection to the Streaming server)

- commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.pa and commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.pa - Re-adds all the references to toots, tooting, etc.

- commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.pa - Reverts that nasty captive link thing in 4.0 which breaks middle-clicking or right-clicking and copying the link for a toot or user not on your instance

The images are generated by cloning commit.pup.cloud/maff/queer.pa, cd-ing into the repo, and typing `make patchstodon`.
