oh, this is neat! you can get little 10mm cubes of various metals: https://www.amazon.com/Vanadium-Metal-10mm-Density-99-95/dp/B071J61M2C
it'd be kind of neat to get a tungsten one actually. tungsten is remarkably dense, significantly more so than lead, slightly more even than gold. It's probably the densest metal we could reasonably expect to own a decent-sized sample of; rhenium, platinum, osmium, and iridium are all precious metals, and americium and uranium are radioactive.
@Felthry I really, really want a chunk of depleted uranium.
@starkatt that would be really neat to have! but even depleted uranium I'd be too worried about radiation
@Felthry the big hazard there is decay product radon but I figure that if you lacquer it it's probably fine.
@starkatt I'd imagine the fact that uranium is extremely toxic might also be a concern, though encasing it in something would solve that problem too
or was it plutonium that was extremely toxic and uranium only very toxic?
@Felthry they're both pretty bad.
@Felthry U isn't as bad as Pu but you definitely don't want to spread it around.
@Felthry I might just be failing at search on mobile.
But if you've already seen it then mission accomplished :D
