Why does it seem like every video game these days is either a mobile game designed to get you addicted to it so you buy in-game currency, or a multiplayer-only FPS?
What happened to games with really good stories? Games that pull you in not for their cheap addictive tricks or their heavily skill-focused gameplay but for their immersive stories and intricate lore? or hell, even just games that are _fun to play_? they're all just either trying to get you to buy stuff, or being way too serious and brown. or both.

that's a good way to put it, yes.
this is also an industry that will say a game sold "below expectations" because it didn't outsell their previous highest lifetime record game's sales within a year
