Is there a big list somewhere of what food items expiration dates actually matter on and which ones they don't? because you don't want to be drinking expired milk but if a loaf of bread is past its expiration date and isn't moldy it's probably fine

@Felthry in Australia, this is signalled on the packaging: "Use By <date>" means you can't have it afterwards, whereas "Best Before <date>" means that you might be ok

@lizardsquid @Felthry Indeed. That said, always inspect the thing itself, too; sometimes food spoils more quickly than expected (ex. packaging didn't close well one time, power outages) and conversely, some foods can be kept more or less indefinitely under the right circumstances (ex. sugar, uncooked rice).
