what *exactly* is the blinking light on a disc drive indicating, anyway? what is "disk activity"?

@Felthry I always assumed it lit up whenever there was data being read/ written to the thing (depending on the type of dis(k/c))

@noiob the fact that it flickers would indicate something more, I'd think, though?

@Felthry I mean a lot of times there's seek times between reads/writes

I'd think that probably isn't the case though because what prompted this in the first place was watching the light on this optical drive flicker while running a read test on it (which sequentially reads everything on the disk, so there shouldn't be much if any seek time)

@noiob then again, maybe it was that; a disc with no damaged or bad sectors just has the light on continually
