@noiob The "german" part of german chocolate cake is the icing. it's chocolate cake with buttercream icing but with coconut flakes mixed into the icing

despite the name german it's named after a person with afawk no connection to the country of germany, just happened to ahve the last name german

@Felthry they're apparently called "black and white cookies" elsewhere, the German name comes from "Ammonikaner" because of the leavening agent ammonium bicarbonate
@Felthry yeah but I doubt anyone here would know what it is so people would probably use a generic name
a propos, do you know we have a baked good called "Amerikaner" (American) that has nothing to do with America?
