apparently very few people who are on fedi at nearly 8 pm have opinions on magnets
-F
@IceWolf that first one is barium ferrite, a hexaferrite that's used for stuff like magnetic strip cards and refrigerator magnets and cheap ceramic magnets
samarium cobalt is the first rare-earth magnet developed, a bit weaker than neodymium magnets but works at much higher temperatures
that messy alloy is one of a family called alnico, which are popular for guitar pickups
and the last one is your standard neodymium magnet

@Felthry Neato!
@IceWolf magnets are neat
-F
@Felthry i had to lookup the recipe for the magnet i know, but i made sure to vote
@Felthry which one of these is neodymium
@noiob the one that has neodymium in the chemical formula
-F
@Felthry I didn't know that was an element
@noiob yep! it's one of the lanthanides that everyone always forgets about
-F
@noiob along with other fun elements like praseodymium and gadolinium and cerium and samarium and thulium
-F
@Felthry okay yeah I'm pretty sure most of the magnets I have are neodymium and I really like those
@Felthry We think magnets in /general/ are cool but don't know nearly enough about all the different types!
