did anyone else find the harp songs in oracle of ages to be a massive disappointment after the actually interesting ocarina songs in oot and mm?
-F
@dodec The oracle of ages ones just aren't... interesting music like at all
they're extremely bland, the kind of things you learn if you're brand new to an instrument and just learning scales
which i guess makes sense since link's presumably never played a harp before but come on

"Here, take this harp. It lets you control time. You know how to play a harp, don't you? ... Um ... well, look, just strum your fingers around on the strings and concentrate really hard, okay?"
I do still like the Oracles games, though. I have a soft spot for 2D Zeldas (and ones like Link Between Worlds which take heavily after them). Explore a 2D world, go into more-or-less-8 dungeons to get a Useful Thing and a Quest Coupon, find some mechanic that lets you explore the world a different way, and eventually make it to the final boss. It's a good structure to hang all kinds of creative gameplay on. Then again, I'm also a big fan of the classic Megaman games, and those are also structurally very similar to each other.
@dodec Oh yeah the oracle games are really good, kinda perfected the 2D zelda formula arguably? though minish cap is definitely also really good... perfected in another direction, that one, I think. the later 2d zeldas (phantom hourglass, spirit tracks, a link between worlds) just seem to be missing something that those have

If you haven't tried Link Between Worlds, I recommend it. It works like a streamlined version of the formula, and I found I didn't really miss the stuff it left out.
@dodec We've played it! it's not bad but i think minish cap and the oracle games do 2d zelda better, honestly
-F
@dodec having capcom do another zelda would be pretty excellent honestly
-F
I'd like them to get on friendly terms with Platinum so we get another Ōkami, too.
@dodec We still need to get Ōkamiden sometime....

@Felthry
Oh, absolutely. Games that give your character a musical instrument to play are automatically that much better if you actually play the notes yourself. And at least the ocarina songs in Link's Awakening sound like the melodies you get them from.
