watching the gdq run of wild arms, learned that apparently the game was commissioned by Sony to show off the PS1's 3D graphics...
but it's a game with beautiful 2D overworld stuff and kinda ugly 3D battle graphics
-F
@noiob Yeah, "ugly" is probably an overstatement
but the sprite work is beautiful and the 3D art doesn't really hold up as well
-F
@Felthry to be fair, you can say that about everything on the PSX, it has very advanced 2D capabilities and very barebones 3D
@noiob That's true. I do think some of the later 3D games like FFIX look pretty great though--not anything special by modern standards but for the PSX, amazing
-F
@Felthry yeah, but FF IX works around the weak 3D by pre-rendering as much as it can, the PSX had a pretty capable video decoder chip
@noiob I'd say the in-battle and overworld models look pretty great though! But yeah it uses prerendered backgrounds to free up processing power for character models, so it does kinda get around the problem
-F
@Felthry yeah it's definitely an impressive game
@Felthry it has some pretty nice 3D character models, compared to, say, FF VII
