video game edge cases, wondering about

something we've always kinda wondered and never saw an actual answer to: in the pokemon games, at what point is turn order decided? in a double battle, if the speed order at the start of the turn is A > B > C > D, and pokemon A uses a move that makes C faster (perhaps C has swift swim and A used rain dance), so that C's speed is now higher than B's, does C go before B or after?

@Felthry Assuming the moves have the same priority (m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w ), the calculation typically happens at the start of the turn, before moves can apply any modifiers.

Some caveats apply described in m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w . Mega Evolution preempts the start of turn calculation, and presumably so do stat and move changes derived from Dynamax/Gigantamax as well.

@Goldkin we've been wondering about this since before mega evos and dynamax existed, so i didn't even consider what would come in on that

what source do you have for the calculation being at the start of the turn and not recalculated when modifiers are applied?

@Felthry Sourcing that directly from the text of the second Bulbapedia article I linked above and what I vaguely remember from Pokemon stat calculation formulas when reading Smogon, but the page sources a few other links in the notes.
