what exactly is "we live in a society" supposed to mean, anyway

@noiob i'm not sure i understand, is there some elided text in it or something?

@Felthry consider this post: https://twitter.com/bonerman_inc/status/996505018520948736
that's Kratos and his son from God of War, a popular AAA game, and a dad and son from Shower With Your Dad Simulator, a small funny indie game. The poster is basically saying that GoW is overrated and SWYDS is underrated, while tying them together because they're both about a dad and his son (despite the games being nothing alike)
@Felthry oh, that's also the dev of SWYDS, for added comedic angle
@noiob okay i think i understand how it's used, but i'm wondering why "we live in a society" is a phrase that has come to mean that because it doesn't seem to fit??

@Felthry society is about compromises to be able to peacefully live with other people
@Felthry bad definition but it's 6 in the morning
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/gamer-joker-gamers-rise-up-we-live-in-a-society / https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/we-live-in-a-society-social-media-reactions know your meme has you covered
the basic premise seems to be you write 'we live in a society where X is popular/encouraged and Y isn't' and try to highlight some fault in our general culture (sincerely or facetiously), but verbosity is discouraged when writing memes, so it got shorthanded quickly
@Felthry well, it jokingly refers to living with other people who may have the "wrong" opinion but you still have to put up with them
