if anyone can show me math that demonstrates on average how many fart jars (including jar costs and shipping) it takes to equal the environmental impact of one (1) NFT, I will draw them an art

@kat i'm not sure you can really measure that because the environmental impact isn't the nft's existence, but the transactions involving it

@kat so its total impact goes up every time it's bought or sold

long, calculations

@kat HOWEVER, the environmental impact of shipping one mason jar (6 oz) by air mail is approximately 74 mg of CO₂, plus a bit for packaging materials let's call it 100 mg of CO₂ (source 1 source 2 (i suspect source 2 is somewhat unreliable but it's the best i have))

whereas a single transaction involving an NFT appears to have a carbon footprint of approximately 40 kg of CO₂ (source)

so it would take about 400000 fart jars, all mailed by air mail, to have an equal impact as a single nft transaction, and i cannot believe we just wrote that sentence

re: long, calculations

@kat if the jars are shipped by something other than air mail (which is the worst method environmentally speaking) it would take more

re: long, calculations

@kat i am also assuming the jar's contents are environmentally negligible, which they probably are? compared to the cost of burning fuel to ship them anyway
