has anyone else ever seen twitch say you can't talk in a chatroom without having a verified phone number? we were going to watch a thing earlier today but that just put us off from it and i'm a little disappointed about that

@noiob we don't want to give our phone number to twitch on principle, even if they already have it

@Felthry can't help you with that, the channel owner probably set it up to thwart spam
@Felthry One of the 'security' features they added was allowing streamers to require a verified phone number to talk in their chat. This is transparently more about datamining than security - Anyone who really wants to make trouble can just, get a number for google voice or a similar service.
This option is currently, or was last I checked, turned on by default, so some streamers may not even know they have it turned on.

@Felthry yeah, it's a setting people can turn on to help cut down on mass harassment issues
@Felthry it's a per-channel setting, either in general or for young accounts / young followers / first-time chatters, with exceptions for subbers/VIPs/mods
