@Felthry Oh! P.S. thank you very much for responding. So far you're the only one, and I still don't really know if what I want to do or say is okay. I want to talk about things that I know will upset some people, but I want to do it in a way where they're not going to hate me, but engage with me about it, or avoid it due to the CW.
It's also hard because I know at least a couple friends have been upset with me for posting ambiguously about things where they don't know which side I'm on.
@relee I think CWs generally increase thoughtful engagement, not decrease it--having a CW helps people know what's under it and if it's a problem for them, either be prepared for it so it doesn't take them by surprise, or avoid it if it's too much for them at the moment
and if they avoid the one thing that doesn't mean they'll avoid you, just that they couldn't deal with that one thing at the moment

@Felthry Yeah! That's one of the main reasons I wanted to take myself to Mastodon, and especially my controversial stuff. On Twitter, if you post politics or whatever, a lot of folks will not follow, un-follow, or even just block you, so they don't have to see it. That's because you don't get to choose the sort of content from someone else you want to see, you see all their tweets on your feed!
Masto is so much better, that way. I still need to find everybody tho.
@Felthry Yeah, I don't think I'd ever be throwing them around. Even ones that are contested, that people can't agree if it's a slur or not, I try to take care when saying.
I think you can put hate into any word or phrase though; it's not so much what you say as how you say it, and what you mean.
Especially though, I wouldn't use any dehumanizing words.
Dehumanizing is only okay if somebody is into it!
Depersonizing, too.
