I've been wanting to spend some time posting CW'd things here, like difficult or controversial topics, or things that I'm thinking about that may touch on sensitive issues, but I keep running out of time in the day. It's somehow already 6:30am, EST?
Anyways, I do also worry if that pinned post at the top of my masto is enough; I don't want to scare people off like what happened on Twitter.
Do you think there's anything I might say that you wouldn't try to convince me otherwise? Just block?
@relee I mean, there are definitely some things that we would just block outright, but nothing i think you're likely to say--that would be things like throwing slurs around and stuff, and you're not that kind of person

@Felthry Yeah, I don't think I'd ever be throwing them around. Even ones that are contested, that people can't agree if it's a slur or not, I try to take care when saying.
I think you can put hate into any word or phrase though; it's not so much what you say as how you say it, and what you mean.
Especially though, I wouldn't use any dehumanizing words.
Dehumanizing is only okay if somebody is into it!
Depersonizing, too.
@relee I think CWs generally increase thoughtful engagement, not decrease it--having a CW helps people know what's under it and if it's a problem for them, either be prepared for it so it doesn't take them by surprise, or avoid it if it's too much for them at the moment
and if they avoid the one thing that doesn't mean they'll avoid you, just that they couldn't deal with that one thing at the moment

@Felthry Yeah! That's one of the main reasons I wanted to take myself to Mastodon, and especially my controversial stuff. On Twitter, if you post politics or whatever, a lot of folks will not follow, un-follow, or even just block you, so they don't have to see it. That's because you don't get to choose the sort of content from someone else you want to see, you see all their tweets on your feed!
Masto is so much better, that way. I still need to find everybody tho.
