welcome to kasran has bad opinions about music software hour. today: trackers

trackers: i don't like them. i think the tracker interface is not conducive to music and has been completely outmoded by piano-roll and other such interfaces, except *maybe* in low-mem/low-power situations where trackers' easy rendering means they don't chug so much

ultimately that's just my opinion on what's suitable for me. if you make good music w/ trackers keep going

that's it for kasran has bad opinions about music software hour. please leave your angry comments in the trash can

oh, addendum: trackers are probably better for keyboard-based systems where a mouse is not supported or infeasible. piano rolls are definitely easier to operate with a mouse

i'm still not super sure what the best interface is for touchscreens. piano roll, maybe

@typhlosion You make good points! I like trackers, personally, but that's quite possibly just because the only music software i'm familiar with is Famitracker.

I wonder if trackers are a thing from the days of computers that struggle to render anything other than text, so a text-based UI that didn't need to process notes and other non-character-aligned things was practically necessary, and then people just kept using them because a) it's what they're used to and b) it's ⁂retro⁂

Follow

@typhlosion and maybe c) it's maybe easier for people unfamiliar with music notation to learn?

also I hope your thing saying leave your angry comments in the trash can didn't mean you didn't want any replies if so I apologize

@Felthry nah you're good. that was tongue in cheek

i would question the thing about it being easier for people unfamiliar with music notation to learn
