@owashii@plush.city there are 15 main series final fantasies, then X-2, XII:RW, XIII-2, and LR:XIII makes 19, then there's type-0 giving 20

that's the most conservative estimate of the number of final fantasies i think you could give

then there's stuff like the tactics sub-series, which adds 3 more, the Bravely Default series adds another 3, Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light adds one more

@owashii@plush.city ooh age of clam is good

@trysdyn this, along with the fact that awoo is an allowlist instance, is why we are trying to get people to include a link to what they're referring to

re: food, poll

@patchwork no apricot? or plum? or prickly pear? or even blackberry??

re: tangent

@niss @artemis@vulpine.club that might be something you'd only represent in narrow transcription, yeah

unless you're specifically talking about that sound itself and the differences between realizations as /bʌtɚ/, /bʌdɚ/ and /bʌɾɚ/, in which case you would use it in broad transcription too because i don't want to have to figure out exactly how aspirated the /b/ should be or how raised the /ʌ/ is to make narrow transcription valid
-F

@artemis@vulpine.club @niss so you can say "the sound /eɪ/ can be represented by the symbols ⟨a⟩ or ⟨e⟩ in english, and it can be realized as anything from [eɪ] to [εi] or even [εɪ] depending on dialect", for instance
-F

@artemis@vulpine.club @niss IPA is always read left-to-right

putting it between /forward slashes/ means you're using broad transcription, where you're making assumptions about the phonemic inventory of a language to avoid having to be hyperspecific. if you put it between [square brackets] that means you're using narrow transcription and it should be pronounced exactly as written. if it's between ⟨angle brackets⟩ that means you're talking not about the sounds but about the symbols

re: tangent

@niss @artemis@vulpine.club there isn't only one in some english dialects; many have /ɾ/ as well (as in dialectal butter /bʌɾɚ/ for instance)
-F

@niss @artemis@vulpine.club oh you got it first. it'd be a ɹ, not a r, though, for English. English doesn't have /r/
-F

@artemis@vulpine.club that would be something along the lines of /d͡ʒeɹɪk/

re: the furnace replacement saga

@rey definitely look into heat pumps if you have to change it anyway, they're good
-F

@Quest which boost is this referring to? we can't see any that make sense with this
-F

@NerdSynth we're weird and i encourage others to be weird too! -F

kind of a subtoot?

though when you don't have a good sense of what the other people in question are comfortable with it can be a little frustrating

i want to show affection but i don't know if it's appropriate or welcomed and i don't know how to ask so i'm just kinda complaining about it when i should be asking because Social Anxiety™

sometimes we just randomly feel really affectionate, sometimes at just friends in general and sometimes at a specific person

i dunno why, but if we have to get into A Mood at random, better this one than something unpleasant
-F

@NerdSynth and i hope your anxiety is more manageable now. i like seeing interesting people around! and you seem like interesting people
-F

@NerdSynth well i'm glad you think so! we plan to continue making interesting posts
