(and Riven is probably one of the best games of its era, if not one of the best of all time)
did you know: the PS1 had a buuunch of games that came on multiple disks, from Xenogears's two disks, Final Fantasy 7 on three, Final Fantasy 9 on four disks... but there were games that came on even more disks than that! We recently (about a month ago) picked up a copy of Riven on PS1 for the sheer novelty of having a game on _five_ disks--we'd previously thought that nothing had ever been released for the system on more than four.

assistance request, discussion of shitty living situations
So, uh, we desperately need help. There's a lot of stuff going on and I figure I'll go over it:
First, @pillowcat and I are currently living in a *shit* situation. It's a house that got like 1/10th of the way through a remodel and then abandoned, the toilet barely works, the hot water barely works, the floors are nasty. We can barely afford to eat b/c I'm disabled and haven't managed to get on disability yet, and Tess is having trouble job hunting. And it's REALLY hard for me to get medical supplies down here. We really, really want to get out of this situation and out of this state but we need enough money to eat and on top of it some padding to allow Tess to go job hunt in the area we want to move to.
Secondly, my GFs, @Tryn and @Siruco are currently in the process of getting kicked out of their house. They have nowhere to go besides to a similarly shitty situation that'd put them well away from all of their support systems and any chance of getting back out. So we want to get them in with us in a better situation, but first Tess and I have to be in a good enough situation to help that happen. Today in "things that are extremely fucking weird in Unicode": ⍼
U+237C, aka RIGHT ANGLE WITH DOWNWARDS ZIGZAG ARROW, aka "something that makes no sense mathematically or in a graph".
Until you find out it's very, very nearly the exact form of the "ellis sigil", or the "linking sigil", commonly used in occult or chaos magick, as seen here.
This is the only thing that looks at all similar to U+237C, and U+237C doesn't look anything like anything I've ever seen in any actual tech usage or math, which is interesting as it purports to be a "math symbol".
This would be at least mystery solved as to how it could've happened, albeit weirdly: someone snuck in a chaos magick symbol and said it was from math.
Except the ellis sigil was created in 2003.
Unicode 3.2, released in 2002, contained this nonsense symbol.
I have no answers for why.

fun fact: the entire reason that vacuum tubes like the 6N8 exist is because germany decided they would tax electronics based on the number of tube sockets in them... so tube manufacturers started making multiple tubes in a single glass envelope, that fit together into a single socket
it's interesting to realize that I have the power to completely change someone's mood just by putting words in this box... I hope I tend to change moods for the better!
