@heytanuki@snouts.online @Hi_cial@snouts.online I guess technically someone's name being their username is a valid greeting too, because you can just greet someone by saying their name too

I like it when people have usernames that are also ways of greeting them, like @heytanuki@snouts.online and @Hi_cial@snouts.online

meta stuff

well, I never previously felt the need to lock follows (i.e. put them on an approval-only basis) but with the current influx of bad actors I think even on awoo there's a bit of a need for it right now.

weird thoughts

Thinking about headless hyenas....

Hyenas seem to be on my mind a lot lately. Maybe I should try being one sometime.

I like that ancient didactic inscriptions of an alphabet are called "abacedaria" just because that's abcd with vowels and a latin ending stuck on it

the sound that a laserdisc player makes is quite scary

it sounds like the disc is going to fly apart or something

I like how DVD originally stood for digital video disc and then people started using it for non-video things and they tried to rename it digital versatile disc but all they really did was make it end up not standing for anything

i wonder how many times this message has been converted between electrical and optical signals by the time it reaches the person reading it

re: Tech problems, cleaning up our TV space

For the devices being plugged into the TV, we ended up getting some little switches. Hopefully they help.

I'm not so sure about the component/composite one because I don't know how our TV determines whether it needs to use the component or composite decoder.

re: Tech problems, cleaning up our TV space

Additionally, this gives us:

1 TV
1 SNES
1 PS2
1 Wii
1 X360
1 Wii U
1 Wii U gamepad charger
1 Nintendo Switch dock
1 PS3
(also 1 bug zapper because that was the best place to put it)

that all need to be plugged into a power outlet in the TV area. Of these, there are two that require extra space for a wall wart: the Switch dock and the SNES.

Currently, all of these are plugged into one of two power strips that are chained off each other. We just ordered today a 12-outlet power strip to hopefully help with this mess.

Tech problems, cleaning up our TV space

So, our TV has:
2 HDMI inputs
1 VGA input
1 F-connector for RF input
1 combined component/composite input

Things we want to connect to our TV:

1 computer (HDMI)
1 SNES (composite)
1 PS2 (component)
1 Wii (component)
1 PS3 (HDMI)
1 Wii u (HDMI)
1 Xbox 360 (HDMI)
1 Nintendo Switch (HDMI)

...you can see the problem here

this is not doing a good job of being pieces we've heard and didn't know the name of because everything so far we either don't recognise or already do know the name of
