re: ffxiv

on a positive note: liking the game so far. We might purchase it next month to be able to properly play it

ffxiv, pol

well, we started playing the trial of FFXIV because people seem to think it's really good

One of the first other players we saw had the name "southern ancapistan" and uh, yeah, wow.

birthday present from our mom arrived a few days early! a box set of the Avatar series on blu-ray

I'm kind of amazed to see that even on blu-ray it's seventeen discs

kind of proud of ourselves for getting all that done, it was a surprising amount of work and I'm glad it's done now

it helps to have a single 12-outlet power strip instead of two chained 7-outlet ones, and a couple switches (one HDMI, one component) to allow everything to be hooked up at once

Show thread

spent like an hour and a half yesterday untangling cables and rearranging things to try to make the tv area a bit cleaner and it looks a lot better now

I'm kind of curious: is there any reason at all that someone might want to get a dedicated sound card for a modern PC?

does vaporeon have fur, or are they more like a fish

Nice big screen, too. not the largest CRT we've ever seen but definitely up there

Show thread

We picked up a neat old CRT that the university was throwing out today

It's weird and not really the best for home use because it was part of a surveillance system, so it uses BNC connectors for its RF inputs, it doesn't have any composite or component inputs, and it's only got mono audio

But it does have two s-video inputs, which is nice, plus it's a color CRT and everyone likes those, low latency and stuff

We do not have room for it in our apartment though

why was it 1.44 megabytes anyway, why that specific number

Do they make composite-to-component video converters? We don't need even an upscaler or anything, just a converter

Searching only seems to return composite-to-hdmi and component-to-hdmi things and we don't want hdmi

Today, some stuff we ordered is set to arrive, and we are probably going to be Productive and get things Cleaned Up by Quite A Bit around the TV

rather than having two chained power strips we'll have just one with more outlets on it, and we'll have a bunch of wires going into selector boxes instead of hanging out to be swapped manually

I wonder if this is a deal-with-stress mechanism and if it is I don't like it, we don't have money to spend and it makes us likely to spend it on stuff we don't need
