honestly Angband gets an honorable mention just for the whole potion of uselessness thing
longish, reasoning for list inclusion
Suikoden II is on the list because of all the beautiful spritework. Especially in the early-game, there are numerous events that use sprites that are only seen once in the entire game--the best example being when Viktor and Anabelle share tea(?) and there are tons of sprites of both of them drinking and making minor idle motions that aren't used anywhere else in the game
Metal Gear Solid is on the list because of tiny things you can do that actually impact the game, like how you can use the smoke from a cigarette to make lasers visible, or how enemies will notice your footprints, not just the obvious things
After watching @connie stream metal gear solid a few times, we now have two games that we can think of with extreme attention to detail
- Suikoden II
- Metal Gear Solid (series?)
my answer to this would probably be Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on the game boy color
The game is... fine, but the music is amazing
#MastoMonday I recently released a little bee themed base builder/management sim called Hive Time 🐝 https://cheeseness.itch.io/hive-time
On the surface, it's about cute bees living in a zany world. At a slightly deeper level, it's about the delicate and deliberate effort needed to manage/maintain population diversity in a generational community.
If you check it out, I hope you find it interesting ❤️
we're not alone in this right?? we're not the only ones who conceptualize dimensionful quantities like this, right?
i feel like these students are learning the wrong things and I really want to fix it but we *can't*
