somewhat annoyingly, our usb headset has an incredibly loud volume level... when doing teleconference meetings with it we need to set it to 4% or else it's way too loud
that means we have very little granularity in adjusting the volume
it'd be kinda nice if there was a fine adjust knob or something but no, the volume controls on the headset itself just send volume up and volume down commands to the OS

Asking for money or assistance, not urgent but incredibly important to mental health
The microphone on our headset just completely died. We don't really have any backup because money has been super tight for us. We literally can't afford to get anything, as all our money right now is marked off for living expenses.
Right now it's about the only way we can actually talk to our partners and actually do things with them until this pandemic finally ends. So we desperately need at least something.
If anyone has a spare mic they'd be willing to give to us and ship us, please direct message us. If not if you have a bit of spare cash, throwing it at our paypal would be greatly appreciated so we can save up for something sturdy.
I'll be making replies to this post with any updates on acquiring a new microphone.

"A time-honored protest tactic is to stand along the main road to the manufacturing plant with huge photos of the grotesque injuries caused by these munitions."
looking it up all we can find is that the actual official standard (which most records deviated from because it was standardized after they were already in production) was 78.26 rpm for the simple reason that that was the speed a common 3600 rpm motor (the speed of a synchronous motor on 60 Hz AC) would give you with a cheap and common 46:1 gearing
but they could have gotten an even 80 if they'd just used a 45:1 gearing so why didn't they
