fun bit of trivia: for incredibly high currents, an IGBT can actually be more efficient than a MOSFET, because in an IGBT the conduction loss is proportional to Ic·log(Ic), and in a MOSFET the conduction loss is proportional to Id²
the constant of proportionality is way, *way* smaller for a good power MOSFET though
