food

i'll be a little surprised if eastern european gets any votes just because it's not very popular but bratwurst is delicious and we had a *fantastic* potato soup at a... German? Polish? restaurant ages ago (the potato soup and the fact that it was eastern european is the only thing we remember from that. Oh and that it was served in a ceramic pot shaped almost like a teapot minus the spout, for some reason? I think we had sausages too but don't remember them)

Which would you consider your favorite cuisine out of the ones here? (i only get so many choices so i'm having to combine some, I know there are big differences between regional variants of all of these but i only get ten options to put here!) (I'm trying not to be unfair to any particular cuisine)

Just had a thought: take someone reasonably knowledgeable about how to make good food, go through the grocery store (particularly the international foods aisle) and buy some of every ingredient they don't recognise, and have them cook something nice with it all without looking up what any of it is

today we learned: apparently, in the UK, hunting is seen as a posh thing that rich people do

here in the US it's seen as a low-brow kind of thing, basically the exact opposite

For some reason, I'm thinking about the opening quote from Tales of Phantasia: "If there is evil in this world, it lurks in the hearts of man."

I don't know why exactly i'm thinking about that, but it's something we've always kinda just remembered, even through big memory-damaging events

it's not a particularly profound thing or anything, but it's a lot more so than we-at-the-time expected to see from a video game

why did they call them artichoke hearts when the word heartichoke was right there

Fun fact: one of the first things that was intentionally cooked in a microwave oven was a whole egg, still in its shell, cooked by one of the people working on developing the microwave oven into a product that could be sold.

Anyone who knows what happens to eggs in a microwave can probably guess what happened.

For anyone who doesn't know what happens: don't try this. The egg explodes and it's probably a nightmare to clean.
