I kind of want to get some art of me as several different species to see what fits... been feeling a little un-anchored specieswise lately

Trails and Tales series norms, maybe minor spoilers for the first like twenty minutes of Tales of Arise, talk of (fictional) death and brutality

like, the Trails series avoids having anyone actually die most of the time and when they do it's a big story event

the Tales series on the other hand doesn't have any qualms showing random soldiers die and Tales of Arise in particular starts off with you in a slave camp where people are literally worked to death

going from playing Trails of Cold Steel to playing Tales of Arise is some major tonal whiplash.

Huh. This summer someone released a hack of Super Metroid where you start with all the items and then have to put them back, getting weaker as you go: forum.metroidconstruction.com/

food

we got some donuts from a place that sells donuts, and despite ordering half a dozen donuts they gave us a full dozen and what are we going to do with all these donuts
-F

consider: friends, with two or more heads
-F

just realized, the entire metroid series has only three recurring characters: Samus, Adam, and Ridley

Mother Brain and Kraid we don't count as characters since they don't have any discernable personality or anything

"Corporate America wants to frame this as a “labor shortage.” Wrong. What’s really going on is more accurately described as a living-wage shortage, a hazard pay shortage, a childcare shortage, a paid sick leave shortage, and a healthcare shortage."
theguardian.com/commentisfree/

you can tell that they really try to make each one stand on its own if necessary but really, you *can't* start with any one other than the very first without a) having major spoilers for everything before it and b) having trouble understanding what the hell is going on, at least if you aren't starting from the start of a story arc

the downside to liking stories for the reasons we like them means it's really hard to recommend things to people because
- giving any specifics would be Major Spoilers
- half the time it's going to be "okay this game is really good but you really can't play it until you've also played these other six 40-hour jrpgs"

-F

i just thought that was kind of neat how instead of having every failed recipe give you some junk fail item, you get "peculiar" dishes, with a unique one for each recipe, and some of them are very useful--they aren't just worse versions of the same

you know how a lot of jrpgs seem to have some kind of cooking mechanic?

in trails of cold steel 3 and 4, rather than giving you just success or failure, each recipe has a unique entry in each of four tiers. so you can make something exactly according to the recipe, but there's a random chance to get a better version of it, a failed version of it (which has unique effects and can be useful!), or if you pick the right character to cook it, a unique extra-special version of it

worldbuilding idea

A setting in which dragons are multibodied beings with one large body and many small ones, but the majority of non-dragons think that the smaller bodies, referred to as kobolds, are a subservient species rather than just part of the dragon
