food, fruit
our boss puts out little snacks in the break area from time to time at work, and the most recent one was a punnet of tiny apples, like the size of clementines
we had one, and they were very disappointing apples. almost no flavor to them and very little juice. i know it's about as out of season as apples get right now but still, those were disappointing

re: youtube video thumbnail, ukraine current events
i noted in the image description that we can't really identify the people pictured in the background due to having some degree of face-blindness; if anyone can tell us who they are that'd be appreciated
i suspect the bald one is putin but am not certain enough to say for sure

we also learned that there is a word fremd that means "weird", "strange", or as a noun, "stranger" in the sense of "someone you don't know"
so fremd could be called the opposite of friend

@Felthry is the quality of being long length-- oh hell it is
today we learned: the reason that went is the past tense of go is because it's not the past tense of go, it's the past tense of wend, an archaic word synonymous with go, a word which apparently just didn't have a past tense? so even though wend fell out of use (except for the rare poetic use), went is still perfectly current

this is a linguistic phenomenon called "suppletion" if you want to look up more about it
other examples in english are person/people, cow/cattle, be/is/was
-F
we remember some particularly egregious examples of this from Latin class, but can't remember what the actual examples were.
