out of context, but it doesn't make that much sense in context either

Come to think of it, if someone thrust forward a fistful of loudly buzzing french fries, I'd probably want to leave the situation too.

Still some of the best advice for programmers:

Don't be clever. Be obvious.

Hall of the Elders
Metroid Prime
Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuma

This reverent piece is played in the main hall of an ancient Chozo temple on Tallon IV, a place Samus returns to several times to obtain gifts left for her by the Chozo.

Like much of the music of the Metroid series, it says a lot with very little; there's a single, slow melodic phrase at the beginning, a solemn theme used throughout the series to represent the Chozo.

But rather than continue in conventional musical methods, the composers move to slow, steady tones with ambient sounds in the background that do quite a good job of conveying the idea of ancient supertechnology; sounds that are obviously artificial but not like any machine that exists on earth.

It does a very good job of conveying respect for those who went before.

Apparently people are being kangaroos now? This is not a bad thing. They have good tails.

okay it's weird as fuck to see someone favorite a post of mine with an avatar that's just a photo of a human face (presumably theirs)

I see people talking about video game framerates and 1080p vs 720p and I'm just over here perfectly happy with a gameboy color or something, I feel out of the loop

Do you ever have one of those days where everything seems to go just slightly wrong, not wrong enough to make it a bad day, but that's almost making it even more frustrating because you can't truthfully say you had a bad day

That was our today. x.x

In a similar vein, air conditioners are everywhere, but no one seems to make fire, earth, or water conditioners.

They make space heaters, but it's surprisingly difficult to find a time heater.

It's the little touches that really make a game. Case in point: In Metroid Prime 2, whenever you enter a save station, Samus slumps her shoulders and looks ever so slightly downward, in a way that conveys very well that she's _tired_. She knows she has to continue on, and she takes a deep breath and straightens up immediately after saving, but that brief moment of vulnerability really shows you that Samus is a _person_, not just some kind of idealized force of good.

you could take this in a lot of ways, and I bet some of those ways would be better than my thoughts on it, but I was just thinking about how there are games that are literary classics in their own right, like Tales of Symphonia or Suikoden

An idea (good or bad, you be the judge): A video game club that functions like a book club, where everyone plays a game and then discusses it

no other job that we know of has made such a complete transition from job to machine. Some have made a partial transition; words like "dishwasher" can mean either the job or the machine.

It's weird to think sometimes that "computer" used to be a job description, not a device.

I wonder sometimes, has the DMCA ever benefited anyone who isn't a large corporation?

Just thinking about the great fan projects that got shut down, like AM2R, countless youtube videos, that one super mario 64 reimplementation in unity

There's something aesthetically pleasing about screw terminals and I don't know what it is.

The creature that we currently call the king cobra will, in the near future, be called the flightless king cobra.

well, that's enough stackexchange for one day, had someone insult me for advising them (not impolitely) to get a multimeter
